Luxury shopping is both exciting and glamorous but it can also be very daunting. Maybe it is the high price tag or how long you have been saving for this purchase or even the whole shopping experience that makes it intimidating. Don’t worry, it does not have to be this way.

This is your guide to helping you make the best choices for your luxury shopping and get the best deal for your dream items.

  • Do your research: looking at pictures online of that particular item and how other people are styling it, will help you have a better idea of how it could fit in your wardrobe. I personally really like looking at youtube review videos and hear about other people’s opinion on it. Blogs like the Purse Forum are also a great source of information and a great place to engage with other fellow luxury bag owners.
  • Try it in store: even if you decide to buy it online, I would always suggest trying it in person. You get a clear idea of how it looks on your figure and how it compliments your style. For example, if you are buying a bag, you might realise that the one you love is way too big or small for your frame. It also allows you to try different textures, colours and sizes of that particular item.
  • Give it time, don’t buy on impulse: since you are spending a significant amount of money, you want to make sure that you will still love it in a few months. Therefore, take your time, go and try it on and if you are still thinking about it after a while, you probably will still enjoy it in a long time.
  • Think long term investment: it is very easy to get carried away with the luxury trends but unfortunately those purchases are not great investments as the style fades away very quick and those pieces loose value. Classic luxury items are timeless, they are pieces that you can wear and sell a few years down the line for the same amount purchased or even more. Essentially, you can wear that piece almost for free. Items like Chanel bags for example keep increasing in price every year, therefore a bag bought 10 years ago was a lot cheaper than what you could sell it for today.

  • Get those deals: once you have decided what you want to buy, I would recommend looking at different stores both physical and online and seek the best deal. Harrods, for example is great for certain luxury brands as you can get reward points that you can use for your next luxury purchase (certain high end brands are excluded such as Chanel). Online stores like MyTheresa do amazing sales all the time including annual sales such as Cyber Monday which is coming up soon. Waiting to buy your item when you’re abroad might also be a cheaper option as you can get the tax back. I also really like the app Shoptagr as it allows to keep track of your favourite items and notifies you when they go on sale.
  • Buying trendy items and not loosing money: if you are still set on buying a trendy item, there is way to go around it and not loose money. Trendy pieces usually stay in fashion 2 to 3 years after they first come out. Therefore, I would recommend buying it as soon  as it first comes out, wearing it for a year and selling it before the trend fades. When a trendy item first comes out, it usually takes a while for the trend to really blossom and when it finally does, it peaks to the point that they usually become hard to buy because they are sold out in most places. It is at this peak time, that you can actually end up selling your item for even more than what you bought it for. It just takes skills to know before hand how popular the item is going to get.
  • Buy second-hand: not only will it save you money but it is also a lot better for waste and the environment. I have already talked about it in my “How to sustainable fashion” post but “vintage shopping” or buying second hand is actually very on trend right now. Items that look like they have had a whole other life before you look fashionable and are much more interesting.

Hope this helps and good shopping x
